First comes love, then comes......

I'm not exactly Don Juan, but I would like to think that I'm pretty good at romance, and I proved it this past weekend by proposing to my woman as the sun set while sitting along the beach in Del Mar, California.
Things never seem to go as planned when making a decision like this, but as long as you have made the right choice in a partner, you can't go wrong.
I'm pretty good at faking a smile and remaining calm around people I don't like, but I can never seem to keep that wonderful 'poker' face when it comes to romancing my woman and secretly planning this proposal.  I tried my best to make everything a surprise, but my emotions seem to have gotten the best of me, so it appeared to be half surprise, and half figuring it was coming.  All in all, things worked out in the end, and most importantly, she said yes.
So what advice can I give others who are thinking of doing the same thing?  Well, I think what's most important is that you do it for all the right reasons.  For those of you out there who are currently dating women who are worried about their "ticking clock", I would suggest not going for the shotgun proposal and wedding.
If you are in your 30's or beyond, your in love, and your living with your woman anyway, I think its time to 'man up' and make it official.  And remember, since your the man, it will no longer be about 'you' or 'us' after that proposal, so at least take full control over how it goes down, because from there on out you will be catering to what she wants
I would also suggest that you refrain from proposing while at a sporting event, or by having a banner flash somewhere, because the first idea is just planing stupid, and the second one is a 'made for TV' moment that goes better on America's Funniest Home Videos then real life.
You have the rest of your lives together, god willing, to showcase your love and devotion to the woman, so stick to something private and simply pop the question while its just you and her.
And, just like I tell all the kids I work with, along with any/all friends who seek advice on just about anything, I say be yourself, remain calm, stick to what you know, and for god sakes show some sincerity.  Save the jokes for another occasion.  And enjoy the rest of your life.
If you got some good ideas on how to best pop the question, please share your comments and thoughts.
