This is why I still bother to get up in the morning in this cruel, cruel world.

"He Works So Others Have Homes"

So I just finished reading an article about some retired landlord who decided to actually go back to work to help out two of his tenants who were laid off from their jobs and couldn't pay their rent and support their wives and children.  I almost don't believe it.  Not in this country, where they are so quick to evict people as soon as possible.  I've actually known of landlords who would rather have an empty apartment for months rather then offer the place a few bucks cheaper a month in the fears that they will get some.... (I could say things that are racially motivated here, but I won't).... Bottom line is, they do their best to wait for that perfect tenant......okay, let's get real........they looking for whitey and/or a nice person of Asian decent.
But then comes this wonderful story of a man who cares about others, and respects their rights to keep a roof over their children's heads just like everyone else wants and needs in their lives.  Now, obviously, the point of owning buildings, like any other kind of business, is to make money, and I'm not saying that all landlords should keep everyone in their buildings whether they pay or not, but this story does tell a strong tale of love, respect, honor, and morality.
Whatever happened to "love thy neighbor"?  Whatever happened to the real spirit of America and what is was founded on?  How about this statement,  "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore.  Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" (famous poem by Emma Lazarus)
In our society, we always seem to be quick to help and support "hot chicks" and "kept men" that we have in our lives, but when it comes to family, friends, neighbors, and random homeless people walking down the street, we seem to look the other way, and base our decisions to help based on how we can benefit from it..............But you know what? Maybe its not all that way.  For those of you out there who continue to live your lives day to day respecting others, helping others, and assisting those in need, God Bless you.  I wish you well, and I wish you a long, happy, and prosperous life.
