Another day, another "athlete" gets charged with a crime.
So I read an article on ESPN.com about three Freshmen football players at the University of Tennessee who were charged with attempted armed robbery.......Is anyone really surprised by this anymore?
It's another one of the things you just gotta love about our society. When it comes to our sports, we do whatever it takes to win. Even in high school and college athletics, every year you read stories about these wonderful young citizens of ours playing and striving on their respective teams, and all the while failing every class, smoking dope, and beating their girlfriends. Then.....guess what? they still get recruited by colleges........you know.......those places where regular students pay as much as $100,000 of tuition to attend and get the best education to try and earn a good living..........oh.......I'm not done yet..........these wonderful specimens are then eventually drafted into professional sports and are signed to multi-million dollar contracts..................huh????????????
Then comes the next part of the story. We then have the pleasure of hearing daily stories on the news of these wonderful role models drunk driving, beating their wives, robbing people, and "making it rain" at random strip clubs (and being accused of rape, etc.) Meanwhile, dopes like you and me are out there cheering them on, buying shirts with their names on the back, and buying the same stuff for your little kid to wear and pretend to be out in the community.
Meanwhile, as my good friend CW2 would point out, "I would love to see one of these hard core fans run into one of these 6 foot 8 players out in the parking lot of some club when they are not recognized and wearing tons of jewelry and baggy clothes and a hooded sweatshirt, and watch how quickly they run away from them thinking they will get robbed or raped or something"....
Obviously I'm too young to have lived in this era, but I will bring it up anyway..........Remember when leagues had to use replacement players.................not because the players were on strike demanding more money, but because the players were off fighting in a f*cking war and protecting our God Damn country..............I bet a lot of these heroes are turning over in their graves as we now experience sports in the 21st century, where criminals and degenerates from all across the country are being treated like gods, given all kinds of money, power and respect, given passing grades, and told to try their best to avoid all of the friends they grew up with because they might bring them down.....................Are you kidding me !!!
