Idaho Baptists Charged With Child Abduction in Haiti. What were they thinking?

So have you heard this report of some kind of religious group who went to Haiti, found a bunch of kids who looked like they could use a better life, and decided to march them on the border at the Dominican Republic.  Oh yeah, and did I mention that many of the kids had no passports or id's with them?  These oh so helpful men and women are now stuck in a prison cell in Haiti, facing 6 to 24 years in prison for kidnapping, and probably wondering what the f*ck they were thinking in the first place.  This of course got me thinking. One of the main thoughts I had was that of the struggling low income and homeless families and youth right here in the good old U. S. of A.  I think of the thousands of young Americans waisting away in random group homes and foster homes, being abused and neglected, and waiting to turn 18, which is when many of them become homeless when the services, free housing, and money goes away.  I guess you can say that I have always been fascinated by the priorities and motivations of others......especially religious and other forms of specialized groups and "cults".
So again, I wonder........With all the starving, needy and abused/neglected children in America who need saving, what makes a small group of Americans travel outside the country to snatch up a whole bunch of children and decide that they know what is best for them and that they have chosen them to help and make a better life for.
I don't know, maybe their hearts were in the right place.  But i do kind of wonder what they really thought about these children, and the families they came from.  Especially when I read a little further into the article and learned that some of the kids reportedly had family members alive and well, and probably wondering why the hell a group of white people from America were trying to take their children. I'll tell you one other thing, based on my life experiences and knowledge of our society and the kind of people we are, I also wonder just how wonderful and stable these Baptists and their families are.  I'll bet that there a few of them whose family members are probably happy that they were out of the country and not bothering them.  I just feel like many of us spend way too much time trying to focus on the lives of others rather then just focus on getting ourselves right.  But who ever listens to me?  I'm just a guy who has a lot to say about everything.

What did you think of this article?
