I have seen a piece of heaven...in the form of the frozen food section in the 99 cent store.
I feel like I experienced something new in my life the other day at a local 99 cent store. I, being a broke person working in social services for many years now, have seen many a 99 cent store in the state of Florida. But I now live in Southern California, and I saw something that made me stop in my tracks. Did you know that there is a frozen food section in this place? I swear I never saw anything like it in Florida. And not only that, you can even buy alcohol...for a dollar !
After my fascination started to wear off (I did buy some food that was in it by the way) I later thought about what a cruel world this is. Study after study has shown that we are not only growing as a population, but we are also growing physically as a society. Seems like the only thing we talk more about then sex these days is obesity.
Sometimes, I feel like our business men and women are just too smart for their own good. Come on people, who would have thought that you could make millions by offering a mass amount of cheap and unhealthy products to consumers for a god damn dollar. Why own a fancy restaurant in Beverly Hills with quality food and service when you can put up a Burger King in Compton, sell cheeseburgers on the dollar menu, and pay your staff minimum wage.
Face it, in our society today, its all about buying in bulk. Not just for business owners, but also the consumers. It's why places like Costco and Walmart are taking over the world. And we continue to train ourselves to believe that we are doing right by ourselves, our children, and most importantly, our wallet by purchasing these products.
And it is always about the all mighty dollar. I don't know about you, but whenever I see something in a grocery store that says "organic" or "healthy choice", I keep on walkin, because I already know I can't afford it. And that goes for hybrid cars and Fiji water as well.
Anyway, back to my piece of heaven. I admit, i was intrigued by such a deal. To purchase turkey meat, bananas, milk, cranberry juice and snacks for a dollar each. I just couldn't help myself. And I ended up in the same trap as so many of us these days. Sacrifice my health for my bank account.
It's just not fair......................and............well..............as an emotional eater, I think I need to quickly go eat...............and I also need a drink because its been a long day.................thank god I have what I need in my fridge............compliments of the frozen food section of the 99 cent store...............oh shit...............dammit.........
