Utah to Consider Elimination of 12th Grade....HUH ?
Sen. Chris Buttars has proposed a controversial measure to help reduce the state's $700 million deficit: cutting 12th grade from high schools statewide.
Now this is great. Have you heard this one? I am fascinated. What better way to help unemployment and improve our educational system then by finding a way to force kids to graduate a year early.
And, by the way, this is not the first state to try to do this.
Has this country finally gotten to the point where it basically no longer wants to educate its youth?
I have seen firsthand what it's like to see so many kids get passed along throughout elementary, middle and high school even though they are not actually completing enough legit work to actually receive the honor of passing into each grade. In fact, I personally worked with a child years ago who was passed into the 6th grade...............and he was illiterate !!! You know what that means, right? He can't read or write !!! Yet, there I was, visiting him at his new middle school, and (what a fuckin shock) hearing from his teacher's that all he does his disrupt class and act aggressively towards other............NO shit sherlock.............that would be like me sitting in a classroom in China and being given a daily assignment to complete..........in Chinese !!!
Now, obviously this is just one state (plus, its Utah, the mormons are probably getting more anxious to get their 16 year old wives out of school already), and the idea can easily be shot down in the senate and never happen. But, honestly, this idea should never even be brought up in the first place.
