I'm feeling another Celtics-Lakers battle coming on.
I'm not sure what's scarier for me, the fact that I'm willing to root for the Celtics while now living in Los Angeles, or the fact that I'm rooting for the Boston Celtics against anyone despite the fact that I am from NEW YORK. Well, anywhere, here we are, in the middle of another basketball playoff year, and the Celtics and Lakers are both up 2-0 on their opponents.
As for my fascination with the Boston Celtics, I have two words ladies and gentlemen............ Larry Bird.................that's right, in case many of you have forgotten, there actually used to be a white guy on the court who did more then coach, take charges, pass and shoot 3's. And even though he has long since retired, I have decided to further respect his legacy by continuing to follow the team he made magic with....(wow, is that kind of a dig on the Lakers again)..................I know he is now in management for the Indiana Pacers, but, for god sakes, its the fucking Pacers. No way in hell I'm following the Pacers. So, anyway, back to my point (if I even have one). I think its looking like another year where the teams who have basically won half of all career NBA championships between them are going to face off to get another one.
Larry Bird may not be walking through that door these days, but they sure as hell got some talent playing, and in a time where athletes are now taking every dime they can get out of owners to play wherever, its kinda nice to see that Pierce, Allen and Garnett decided to handle playing on the same team for a few less bucks so they can actually win (yeah, wow, make 10 million instead of 12 million, what a sacrifice). And they even picked a winner in the draft a few years ago...(yeah, don't even get me started on my boy Corey's thoughts on the draft and how it represents athletes, their families, and their lifestyles).
Ok, i'm being jealous because their now rich and I'm not, nevermind. Anyway, as I was saying, Its nice to see that there are still a few teams, players and franchises out there who are willing to actually still put out a winning product. And it's probably really really good for the league to have the Celtics/Lakers battle again anyway for good ratings.
Even though I'm now in my 30's and should no longer be following sports (at least until I have kids) I will still be watching the games and hoping to see my Celtics take on and eventually beat the Lakers. (hopefully in a sweep because the god damn traffic is bad enough out here as it is.
P.S. Somebody tell those fucking TV advertisers to stop showing the Mcdonalds commercial with Lebron James and Dwight Howard and a 'cameo' appearance by Larry Bird............... IT WILL NEVER BE AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL WITH BIRD AND JORDAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
