Why are fathers rights for visitation so fucked in America ?
Boy meets girl. Boy impregnates girl. Girl leaves boy. Boy owes a shitload of money for the next 18 years and still has to ask permission to see child he helped produce and still helps to care for financially. HUH ?
Now, let me first clarify one thing before anyone jumps on me here. I completely understand that its the woman who goes through the pain of childbirth, and I sure as hell would never wanna experience such pain in my life. But I am still kind of curious as to why its the men who feel the emotional and financial pain for the rest of their lives for producing such a miracle in the first place. They say its a man's world, but not when it comes to the 'contract' of marriage and children.
Outside of the amazing world of "K-FED" and his past relationship and child-having life with Britney Spears, it seems as though the story always ends the same way, with the man losing his child and his money for the rest of his life, whether he wants to be in his child's life or not. And I just don't think its fair.
Everyone knows the story of the stereotypical deadbeat dad, knocks up a girl, and vanishes out of thin air. But what about the guys who fell in love, conceived a child with someone, and were later told that their relationship wasn't going to work, and that the woman has decided to keep the child full-time, demand a bunch of money, and have full say on when the guy can see his own child.
There has to be a better solution to this problem, especially if both parents are willing to fully support and care for the kid.
Actually, now that I think about it, it shouldn't really be up to the courts in the first place, because technically, there is no contract when it comes to having a child with someone. Marriage....contract.......child........different story......
But of course, in our society, nothing can apparently get done without attorney's present. And so each and every day, there are men and women throughout the world fighting over the custody of a living, breathing human being who just wants a chance at a decent life. And if you ask me, those chances may dip a little bit if the kid has to grow up in a home where one parent is fighting with the other, not only in person, but also through the courts.
I still also believe that love conquers all, and if both parents can figure out how to raise a child in separate homes without arguing over "money" and "quality time spent", then the child will have as good a shot as any to succeed in this world...............
And, so, to all those loving dad's out there who are struggling to earn enough money to afford child support, and also fight for the right to see that child they are working so hard to care for, I say God Bless you, and enjoy your upcoming Father's Day.
