What ever happened to the idea of encouraging our youth?
"The Sense That someone else cares always helps, because it is the sense of love" (George E. Woodberry, American Poet)
Each day that I work with our youth, I wonder more and more why others don't provide and offer more praise, love and acceptance to them. I'm not going to bother with the whole concept of 'the youth are our future', but it does make sense to come to the obvious realization that these kids are sure as hell gonna become adults and be out there in our society helping to dictate the future of our economy, wealth, and health. So why not give them a better dose of some respect, kindness, thoughts and education?
Instead, what we got is a society full of "who cares" out there flooding our schools, courts and juvenile justice systems. Soooooooooo, does anyone out there 'care' ?
Am I the only one who truly understands the fact that, on average, up to 80 % of our homeless adults are drug addicts with mental health issues. Oh, and to be more to the point, let's also understand that these adults were once youth with mental health issues and a curiosity to abuse illegal substances as there 'coping skill'.
So what do we do? Simple, we ridicule them, call them 'wasted youth', suspend them at will from our classrooms to save us the headache, and tell them they are gonna be losers when they get older. Well, hey, guess what?, thats exactly what can end up happening.
Now, obviously, we can't save everyone, adult or child, but what we can do is appreciate, love, respect and care for others (and not just care about those we want to get touchdowns, homeruns and 3 point baskets from.
So I ask this of my wonderful people, try not to provide nothing but rolled eyes, sarcastic remarks, and showing of pity to those who may one day be in charge of our lives in some way in the future.
What do ya think a that?
