I'm voting on the Bill Gates/Warren Buffett ticket for 2012
During the past week, President Obama met with Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. Who, by the way, are worth a combined $100 billion !!! They were invited to the White House to discuss the 'Giving Pledge', an initiative they launched to encourage rich Americans to donate the majority of their wealth to good causes. They also reportedly discussed ways to grow the economy in America, and discuss ways to further invest in education and invest in sectors with opportunity for growth.
Now, obviously, the first instinct for us lowly and average Americans is to express anger, jealousy and overall contempt for these two men for their wealth. We often criticize men of their wealth for not 'understanding' us; for not 'feeling our pain'; and for not possibly being able to comprehend what it's like to be in our shoes.
Well, ladies and gentlemen, that anger and contempt is what often causes us to remain 'in the background' when it comes to seeking out the world of wealth and success. Instead of being angry, jealous and frustrated whenever seeing men like this, in person or on TV, maybe you should consider feeling motivated, curious, and rejuvenated.
Why is it that, by instinct, we tend to always learn from, aspire to be, and mimic our elders(i.e. mother/father/aunt/uncle), but when it comes to the "rich and famous", we never seem to have thoughts of seeking their advice, suggestions, and knowledge?
Of course, there are those who appear to quickly become lost in the fame (see Britney Spears and Lindsey Lohan), so forget about those who have everything handed to them simply because of looks, talent, and luck.
I'm talking about the the hundreds and thousands of 'self-made men/women' out there who strive for more. They dare to be different ( in a positive financial way
. They dare to succeed. And they dare to be all that they ever wanted to be.
So, Again I say, I plan on putting in a hand-written vote in 2012 for the two gentlemen who have achieved what an entire country as a whole has not....The confidence, hard work, (and a little luck) to believe in a better future.
