Stop teasing me with cheap homes that are far far away.

When I made my decision 3 years ago to leave sunny south Florida to head to sunny southern California, I didn't realize I was going from 2 bedroom $60K condos to 2 bedroom $200K condos.
I continue to have trouble realizing that we are supposed to be going through some kind of financial crisis in this country.  For every company CEO that goes on TV and announces layoffs and moving of factories to 3rd world countries, I see media discussing whether or not Carmelo Anthony will take $65 million from one team or go to another.  I see sports team presidents declaring publicly their desire to make Peyton Manning the highest paid player in NFL history, and I watch Jerry Springer discuss his wealth reaching $500 million.
Soooooooooooooooo, which is it?  Are we rich as a country, or poor ?  Do we really just have a small group of rich people, sitting in some room, in some mansion somewhere, like the old mafia boss meetings, deciding what companies to keep around, what people to make rich, and what states to make prosperous or poor in their unemployment, economy and real estate markets?
If so, please let me know..............don't worry...........i wont rat anybody out.............I just wanna know where is the right place to buy a home.  And I wanna know which city, in which county, in which state they decide is to become prosperous.  Then i will happily leave everyone alone, live in my new home, receive my stable and bi weekly paychecks, and live on the best i can.
